PUPILS from Sheffield’s Westbourne School gathered together for a special Remembrance Day Service in the school grounds to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War.
And one of the highlights of the ceremony at the Broomhill independent school was a reading by pupil Molly Meleady-Handley of her award winning poem Me Brother Dan.
The winner of the International Poetry Competition operated by Never Such Innocence as part of global Commemoration of World War 1, Molly’s piece was selected from 7,128 submissions.
Molly has also read poem at Sheffield Town Hall and has been invited to Buckingham Palace in recognition of her outstanding efforts.
Another highlight of the special service was the playing of the Last Post by former Westbourne student George Newbould.
Before the traditional one minute’s silence, headmaster John Hicks also read the classic Great War poem In Flander Fields.
