Transformer truck Optimus Prime, a full size F1 car simulator and a Supercar will join hundreds of fundraisers dressed as Superheroes in the Peace Gardens to celebrate this year’s Superhero Day on Friday 4th May.

The fundraising campaign, organised by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity, helps sick and disadvantaged children across South Yorkshire by distributing grants throughout the year to families, community groups, organisations and charities supporting causes including poverty, abuse, disabilities and cancer.

The mass participation campaign, which has trended across the UK on Twitter for the last three years, has raised over £65,000 during that period, with Reeds Rains, Nottingham Building Society, SSB Law, SolarFrame and Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme leading the way.

A host of celebrities have also backed Superhero Day, with pop stars Take That, Meghan Trainor, All Saints and actor Stellan Skarsgard amongst those voicing their support.

Hallam FM presenter Simon Morykin will host a live radio broadcast from the Peace Gardens from 5pm to announce how much this year’s Superhero Day has raised, and will be revealed on a huge digital screen by the Town Hall. The Cash for Kids team are hoping to smash the £24,000 raised in 2017.

Amongst several local fundraising events in the coming weeks, a huge online auction is helping to raise funds with over 100 items donated by local businesses including furniture, family days out, hotel stays, gadgets and holidays with starting bids from just £1.

There is still time to join the many schools and businesses across South Yorkshire who have registered to fundraise, with activities including dressing up, holding sweepstakes and going to extreme lengths by jumping out of a plane to raise money.

Oliver Blake, Managing Director for Reeds Rains commented: “This will be the second time that Reeds Rains has been the principal sponsor of Superhero Day and, based on the enthusiasm, determination and commitment of staff in the past, I feel confident that we’ll once again be able to make a huge difference to the fundraising efforts.

“With plans already in place I know that all Reeds Rains’ branches will appreciate the support and encouragement of our customers and visitors to ensure that we can exceed the money raised last year for this magnificent cause, and put something back into the local communities where Reeds Rains trades.”

Allan Ogle, Charity Manager for Cash for Kids, added: “I’m incredibly excited to host our very first ‘Superhero Day party’ in Sheffield City Centre and we hope to welcome plenty of Superheroes along, May the fourth be with you!”

The day-long event at Sheffield Peace Gardens on Friday May 4th begins at 10am and finishes at 6pm. World Snooker, Media Displays, Kwik Fit, Topcars of Sheffield, ADT Haulage, Yorkshire Cosplay Con, FunZone Events and Sheffield City Council have supported the event.
