OPTICIANS in Mexborough got on their bike to raise vital funds for this year’s Sport Relief.
Specsavers on York Square raised a fantastic £100.57 after installing an exercise bike on the street outside the store. The team manned the bike all day on Saturday 24th March and cycled an impressive 170 miles between them – the distance between Mexborough and London. Local shoppers rose to the occasion by dropping in to show their encouragement and offer donations to Sport Relief.
Customers also had their glasses cleaned and checked for the perfect fit in exchange for a donation to the charity.
Andrew Bryer, store director at Mexborough Specsavers, says: ‘The whole team is really grateful for the support we got from Mexborough shoppers at the weekend. Passers-by were very generous with donations and we are thrilled with our fundraising total of more than £100.
‘It’s great to know that the money will help to improve the lives of disadvantaged people living in the UK and the world’s poorest countries.’
Sport Relief 2018 has so far raised more than £38m, with more donations rolling in all the time. The funds raised will support projects in fields such as maternal health, malaria and mental health.
Customers can still make donations in store if they want to support this worthy cause. For more information about Sport Relief, visit www.sportrelief.com
